    IPC and the Environment

A Promise to Protect Our Natural Resources
IPC Print Services is committed to protecting our community and our environment, as well as maintaining safe working conditions within our company. To this end, we strictly comply with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations for all of our operations—and voluntarily exceed these standards in many areas.

In fact, IPC Print Services is a charter member of the Michigan Great Printers Project. This voluntary, non-regulatory, market-driven initiative challenges print companies to maintain the highest level of quality while minimizing waste and reducing pollution within our industry.

Environmental Stewardship: A Cornerstone of Our Vision
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the Print Industry of Michigan and the Michigan Environmental Council have all recognized IPC Print Services for our environmental stewardship.

Our company has adopted a number of successful pollution-prevention strategies, such as targeting volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutant emissions at all of our facilities. In addition, we’re continually researching and testing products and processes that offer safer, less hazardous alternatives than those currently used.

    FSC Certification    [view certificate]    179KB
IPC Print Services has achieved Chain of Custody Certification (SW-COC-003149) from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Certification from this organization ensures responsible use of forest resources and further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to environmental protection.

    Recycling
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it requires 7,000 fewer gallons of water to produce one ton of recycled paper than the same amount of virgin paper, and approximately 4,100 kilowatt hours less energy. In addition, by making paper from recycled materials we are creating 74% less air pollution and 35% less water pollution. Finally, recycling helps conserve forests: Producing one ton of paper from recycled material saves 17 trees!

In 2007, IPC Print Services recycled an astounding 8,448 net tons of paper. These efforts resulted in the following:

    • 144,300 trees were saved
    • 59,417,680 gallons of water were conserved
    • 25,465 cubic yards of landfill space were not used
    • The release of 509,294 air pollutants was prevented

Also in 2007, IPC Print Services recycled more than 180,000 pounds of scrap aluminum.

But we’re not through yet—we continue to look for ways to improve our state-of-the-art recycling center. In other words, IPC Print Services is dedicated to recycling.

    Have a Drink on Us…
Our company installed reverse-osmosis water filters for drinking water in order to reduce our employees’ use of bottled water—and reduce the impact bottled-water packaging has on the environment.

    A Company-Wide Commitment
At every stage of our business, from purchasing to shipping, IPC Print Services is dedicated to preserving our natural resources and minimizing the impact our business has on our environment—while continuing to offer our customers the high-quality products and outstanding services they’ve come to expect from us.
